Volkswagen is bringing one of its most popular SUVs into the electric era with the all-new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan. Expected to launch in Europe in early 2027, this all-electric SUV combines the style and versatility that you expect from the Tiguan with VW’s eco-friendly EV technology.

With multiple powertrain options, an updated interior, and an estimated range of up to 373 miles under European testing standards, the ID. Tiguan offers an exciting look at the future of Volkswagen SUVs.

If you’re interested in electric vehicles, the ID. Tiguan is a model worth watching as Volkswagen continues to expand its electric lineup.

All-Electric Performance and Driving Range

The 2027 Volkswagen ID. Tiguan balances efficient electric driving with responsive performance. Volkswagen plans to offer multiple powertrain configurations, giving you a choice between rear-wheel drive and available 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

Here is a look at the announced specifications:

Feature

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan

Standard battery

58 kWh

Available battery

77 kWh

Available power

190–299 metric horsepower

Maximum estimated range

Up to 373 miles (WLTP)

Maximum towing capacity

Approximately 4,409 lbs.

The larger battery provides the longest estimated driving range, while the available all-wheel-drive configuration delivers up to 299 metric horsepower. With its electric powertrain, the ID. Tiguan is designed to provide smooth, responsive acceleration without traditional gasoline-engine emissions.

The maximum range is based on the European WLTP testing cycle, so U.S. EPA range estimates may differ. American specifications have not yet been confirmed.

A Modern Interior With Advanced Technology

Inside, the ID. Tiguan features a redesigned cabin that emphasizes comfort, quality, and intuitive controls. Its updated dashboard includes a 10-inch digital driver display and a 15-inch central infotainment touchscreen.

An available 12-inch front-passenger display adds another layer of entertainment and convenience, allowing the front passenger to access compatible content without distracting the driver.

Other planned features include:

  • Premium seating: Available electrically adjustable front seats with massage, ventilation, and memory functions.
  • Panoramic sunroof: An available feature that brings more natural light into the cabin.
  • Harman Kardon audio: An available 480-watt sound system for an upgraded listening experience.
  • Retro displays: Optional Volkswagen-inspired digital instrument designs that reference classic models, including the Golf IV and original Beetle.

These features give the ID. Tiguan a more upscale feel while prioritizing everyday usability.

Practical Space for Everyday Driving

An electric SUV still needs to be practical, and Volkswagen has designed the ID. Tiguan with daily use in mind. The vehicle offers seating for five, a rear cargo area with up to approximately 18.8 cubic feet of luggage capacity under European measurements, and a 32-liter front storage compartment, often called a frunk.

The additional front storage space is useful for carrying smaller items separately from the main cargo area. With its combination of passenger room and flexible storage, the ID. Tiguan is designed for commuting, shopping, road trips, and other everyday activities.

Volkswagen also plans to offer towing capacity of up to approximately 4,409 pounds with the appropriate configuration. Actual capability will depend on the battery and powertrain selected, and U.S. ratings have not been announced.

Smart Technology for a More Convenient Drive

The ID. Tiguan introduces technology designed to make electric driving more intuitive. Standard one-pedal driving lets you accelerate and slow the vehicle with just the accelerator pedal, reducing the need to switch between pedals.

Available Connected Travel Assist can help with supported driving tasks, including assisted lane changes on highways. Volkswagen also highlights traffic-light recognition, which can help the vehicle respond to red lights under supported conditions.

Another planned convenience feature is the Digital Key. With a compatible smartphone, you can lock and unlock the vehicle, start it, and even share the digital key with others through supported methods.

As with all driver-assistance technology, you have to remain attentive and responsible when operating the vehicle.

When Will the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan Be Available?

Volkswagen has announced plans to launch the ID. Tiguan in Europe in early 2027. It will be offered alongside the traditional Tiguan, which will continue to offer combustion and hybrid powertrains in markets where those versions are sold. U.S. availability, pricing, final American specifications, and EPA driving-range estimates have not been confirmed.
